DELTA—A team of parishioners have installed and blessed a new bench near Sacred Heart Church in Ladner in honour of beloved pastor Father Allan Charnon, OSA.

Father Charnon, who died in 2008, founded the parish's St. Monica's Guild in 1986. The guild continues to host Bible studies and retreats, help run funerals and prepare flower arrangements in the church, hold prayer groups, and run fundraisers and Christmas events. Members and longtime parishioners who remember Father Charnon had a bench installed in his honour.

Deacon Dileep Athaide blessed the memorial Aug. 26.

In his last few years, Father Allan Charnon developed a deep interest in the social teachings of the church and their application to current situations.

The bench faces a tall tree planted in 1999 in honour of Father Charnon's 40th anniversary of ordination. "Its sturdiness serves as a reminder to all visiting Sacred Heart Church of the steady service that Father Allan provided the parish faithful for many years," said Deacon Athaide.

"For this, we continue to be grateful!"
