ABBOTSFORD—Raul Pinol, a student at St. John Brebeuf High School, has just received an opportunity few high school students get.

Pinol is off to Ottawa this May to present his science project at the 57th Annual National Science Fair. He is one of only 500 students – chosen out of 500,000 science fair projects submitted across the country – who will compete for scholarships and grants on a national level.

His project on the condensation of water using geothermal energy is one he feels passionately about because it has many global applications to assist rural and underdeveloped cities.

This is the second time a student from this Catholic high school has qualified for the National Science Fair. In 2012, student Eric LeGresley won a platinum award for his project on the use of computers in anti-viral drug testing. LeGresley is now on scholarship at Oxford University working on his master’s in biology and chemistry.
