I was very interested in the Jan. 14 article “A Model Tribute to a well-travelled missionary.”

Father Matt Phelan was our parish priest in Merritt and baptized 11 of our 13 siblings. There are numerous stories about him. He was indeed an amazing person and a saintly priest, always putting others first.

My brother and two sisters accompanied him all over the North Thompson Valley in the summer as he did his missionary work. The girls sang the Latin Mass and my brother was the altar boy –for Masses in all kinds of places – even in the woods.

Kudos to The B.C. Catholic for printing the Feb. 11 letter “Skeptical about ‘miracles.’”

The essence, the very kernel of good journalism, is to have the courage to do so. Many thanks to retired professor Robert Scott for stating the facts plain and simple.
