Vancouver's Immaculate Conception Elementary is back open for business, and safer than ever.

The school was closed for three months for a seismic upgrade, then opened once again for classes Sept. 17. The community marked the occasion with a special ceremony that included a ribbon-cutting by principal Colette Foran and pastor Father Paul Smith, OFM.

All churches, schools, and other parish buildings in the Archdiocese of Vancouver were assessed for safety in case of an earthquake during a massive survey in 2013. Many seismic upgrade projects are still ongoing.
