VANCOUVER—Pope Francis has chosen Vancouver-born Bishop Mark Hagemoen to lead the Diocese of Saskatoon. 

Currently the spiritual head of Catholics in Mackenzie-Fort Smith, Bishop Mark Hagemoen is set to succeed Bishop Donald Bolen, who moved on to become the Archbishop of Regina in 2016.

Bishop Hagemoen was ordained in the Archdiocese of Vancouver in 1990 and has been the bishop of Mackenzie Fort-Smith (one of the world's biggest dioceses) since his ordination as a bishop in 2013.

According to the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Diocese of Saskatoon has a Catholic population of 86,645, as well as 36 diocesan priests, 36 religious priests, four permanent deacons, 149 religious sisters, and nine brothers.
