Clothes and toys: everything but the kitchen sink and electronics, are all needed for a yard sale.
The Holy Family chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is collecting for its annual yard sale May 28 at Holy Family Parish.
The parish has “people in need knocking at all hours, so the funds raised will be used for the church community,” said Sherri Marcotte, a member of the Holy Family SSVP committee. The monies collected also go to providing food and toiletries for the needy.
“It will fill the cupboards and make blessing bags for the homeless,” Marcotte said. Blessing bags are freezer bags filled with useful items for homeless individuals: “blankets, sunscreen, juice boxes, toiletries; it’s all stuff they really need, simple stuff.”
Marcotte asks for donations of anything normally found at a garage sale, with a few exceptions. “We can’t have large furniture, car seats, cribs, and electronics. What we do still need is baby items, children’s toys, and housewares, new or gently used.”
“We had a great turnout last year, but we’re hoping we can double that,” she said. “We are really excited for our second annual drive.”
Donations can be dropped off at Holy Family every Wednesday from April 6 to May 25, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Help in bringing items can be obtained from Marcotte, 604-710-4269.
