The annual gathering of pro-life supporters on sidewalks across the country seems to be one of the few live events that isn’t going virtual this year.

Organizers of Life Chain say it’s “business as usual” for the pro-life event, which takes place Oct. 3 and 4 in dozens of communities in B.C and more than 2,000 cities across North America.

Burnaby Life Chain organizer Anthony Craig said his local event will go ahead as usual with participants holding pro-life placards along Kingsway.

“We did not think that the COVID challenges would be difficult since the event takes place outdoors and participants would normally be spaced apart anyway. The only possible contact between participants would be the handling of the placards, so we are taking steps to prevent that. We will also be providing masks for those people who need them.”

Participants are being asked to bring masks and hand sanitizers, to physically distance, and to not attend if they’re experiencing signs of COVID-19

Craig, a parishioner at St. Francis de Sales, said most of the local groups that regularly participate plan on doing so this year. “In my view we are a humble but prophetic ‘voice crying in the wilderness,’ with few seeming to hear our words which derive their inspiration from the Lord. Nevertheless, we are compelled to do and say something about the horror of abortion and euthanasia. We are met with opposition and indifference (even in our parishes) but we persevere.”

In the Archdiocese of Vancouver, Life Chain will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Langley, and Sunday, Oct. 4, in Burnaby, Surrey, Vancouver, and Sechelt.
