The Langley-based Vancouver Giants treated the Super Sisters (three Dominicans and three Franciscans) to a recent game along with Father Patrick Chisholm, pastor of St. Joseph’s, Langley. The crowd got a charge seeing the sisters in their full habits and cheering for the Giants.

The St. Nicholas Catholic Women’s League held a successful Spiritual Adoption campaigns, collecting numerous baby outfits, handmade quilts, diapers, and monetary funds brings to help women facing unplanned pregnancies. At Dundarave Beach in West Vancouver, Squamish Elder Wendy Charbonneau drew deeply from the teaching of her ancestors to anchor Christmas in reconciliation. For 12 years, she has led the Dundarave Festival’s Paddle Songs Saturday and will bless the festival’s Forest of Miracles, featuring more than 150 Christmas trees covering the West Vancouver waterfront. Jackie and Ronnie Weinkam of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Fatima in Coquitlam teamed with the Blooms into Rooms project at St. Joseph’s in Port Moody to deliver Christmas poinsettias to 105 elderly residents of Belvedere Care Centre in Coquitlam. St. Joseph’s and All Saints in Coquitlam also delivered poinsettias to Tri-Cities-area seniors and long-term care centres. The plants were provided at cost by Catherine Polonio of Coquitlam Florist.

Our recent profile of Holy Grounds Coffee House at St. Patrick’s, Maple Ridge, caught the eye of Heavenly Blends Coffee Club in Coquitlam, who let us know they’ve got a drop-in coffee club as well. Heavenly Blends is open to everyone, Catholic or not, or from any parish. It’s open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, downstairs at All Saints Church in Coquitlam. A special invitation goes out to those living alone or in isolation, the widowed or divorced, and moms looking for a place to socialize with others and bring their children.
