Lent is a time for reflection, repentance, and drawing closer to God, and Archbishop J. Michael Miller is encouraging Catholics to embrace the opportunity for spiritual renewal by seeking God’s forgiveness through the sacrament of confession.

To support this, the Archdiocese of Vancouver and parishes are once again offering extended opportunities for confession in the weeks leading up to Easter through Days of Mercy.
“This Lenten Season, it is my hope that the faithful will have increased opportunities for confession as they prepare for the celebration of the Easter Triduum,” Archbishop Miller said.

“These Days of Mercy will expand opportunities for Catholics to have ready access to the sacrament.”
Parishes will offer additional confession times throughout the Lenten season, providing a welcoming space for all to experience God’s mercy. These special times are in addition to each parish’s regular confession schedule.

“This Lenten season, I urge all the faithful to seek the healing and transformative power of God’s mercy in confession,” said Archbishop Miller. “Let us open our hearts to God’s love and find the peace that comes from reconciliation.”
Whether you haven’t been to confession in a while or it’s a regular part of your spiritual practice, Jesus welcomes you with open arms, the Archbishop said. “As Pope Francis reminds us, ‘God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy.’”
Here are the special Lenten confession times and locations. They can also be found at rcav.org/confession.

Overcoming Confession Anxiety:
A Guide to Finding God’s Mercy
If the idea of going to confession makes you nervous, you’re not alone. Many people feel anxious, especially if it’s been a while since their last visit. But confession offers incredible healing and peace – don’t let fear hold you back from experiencing God’s love!
Here’s how to turn that anxiety into a positive, transformative experience:
- Know that you’re welcome. Priests are truly happy to see you in the confessional. They understand that it takes courage to come, and Jesus is waiting to offer you forgiveness and love.
- Prepare with an Examination of Conscience. This helps you reflect on your actions and words. The Archdiocese of Vancouver website has excellent resources to guide you. Visit rcav.org/confession. If you’re worried about forgetting something, bring notes with you!
- Find confession times that work. Parishes are offering extended opportunities during Lent (check the list below!). Plus, parishes also have their regular confession times. You can find times that fit your schedule and choose a priest you know or meet a new one. Remember, there’s the option of face-to-face or behind-the-screen confession.
- Make confession a habit. Once you’ve experienced the peace and joy of knowing God has completely forgiven and forgotten your sins, try making it a monthly practice. It will strengthen you and your relationship with God.
Let this Lent be a time of spiritual renewal and peace as you embrace the sacrament of confession. God’s mercy is waiting for you!
