Pope Francis’ legacy of compassion, humility, and dedication to justice is being remembered around the world — including at Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Vancouver.
Cloverdale Catholic Elementary and St. John Brebeuf Secondary in Abbotsford were among the schools that held assemblies to honour the life and memory of a spiritual leader who was, for many, the only Pope they’ve ever known.

At St. John Brebeuf, hundreds of students and faculty gathered in the gymnasium for a time of reflection and remembrance of Pope Francis.
During the assembly, students shared personal reflections on Pope Francis’ influence. One described him as “a tireless shepherd of the Church [who] focused on the poor,” inspiring others “while leading with humility.” Another spoke of his unwavering commitment to social justice, his advocacy for the poor, and his concern for the environment. A third student reflected on Pope Francis’ ability to unite people of all backgrounds: “He brought attention to the Church through compassion and was admired by many, even non-Catholics.”

The assembly concluded with a moment of unity — a student-led prayer in which the entire school community joined in gratitude for Pope Francis’ life and the legacy he leaves behind.
