MENDHAM, N.J.
The sister of Father Joseph Nguyen, the vicar general of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, made final vows as a Sister of Christian Charity Jan. 10.
Sister Faustina Nguyen made her final profession in the Chapel of Mary Immaculate in the motherhouse of her order on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord before Bishop Joseph Serratelli of Paterson, N.J.
Asked to share her thoughts about her special day, Sister Nguyen said, “Each sister has had an incredibly profound impact on my discernment and formation. I want to say yes to our Church, yes to the family of the Sisters of Christian Charity, and yes to a life of service to God’s people.”
Born in Daklack, Vietnam, Sister Nguyen grew up with four brothers and five sisters. Her father Can still lives in Ho Chi Minh City but her mother has died.
Another brother is Father Peter Nguyen, the pastor of St. Clement’s Parish in Cambridge, Ont. One of her sisters is Sister Maria Prudence Nguyen, a member of the Congregation of Providence in Vietnam. Her other brothers and sisters are all married.
She entered the Community of the Lovers of the Cross in Da Lat, Vietnam, and professed her first vows. She was transferred to Portland, Ore., and professed her final vows in 1995.
In 2007 Sister Nguyen became a U.S. citizen while studying at the University of Bismarck, N.D., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in theology. She began teaching pre-school children in Falls Church, Va., and then in Sacramento, Calif.
She entered the Sisters of Christian Charity in 2012, and since then has been in the formation program and ministering at All Saints Academy in Parsippany, N.J.
For her big day she was joined by her father Can, her two priest brothers, many of her relatives from Canada, and several members of the faculty and staff of All Saints Academy, as well as many Sisters of Christian Charity.
