Working in health care can be tough on pro-life professionals, according to Dr. Toni Parsons.
“There are so many issues, pro-life issues in health care particularly, in the last couple of years,” said Dr. Parsons, a member of the Catholic Physicians’ Guild in Vancouver.
“Within the health service, professionals feel very pressured, and they need to know there is support from the archbishop and from their fellow health workers.”
The guild is therefore holding its annual White Mass again. Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, will be the main celebrant at St. Augustine’s Church.
Parsons said the guest list is not limited to people in white coats. Nurses, pharmacists, dentists, administrators, and all others who work in health care are encouraged to attend.
“The theme is praying for palliative care,” said Parsons. Last year’s White Mass focused on protection of conscience.
The White Mass is one of several ways the Catholic Physicians’ Guild supports health-care workers. Parsons said they also give talks and present two awards each year to health-care workers who are pro-life and do charitable works.
The event will be held at St. Augustine’s Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. More information is available from Judy Talas, 604-430-2712.
