An international display on the life of St. Teresa of Kolkata will be appearing in the Lower Mainland.

“We have a golden opportunity to host an exhibit from the Missionaries of Charity that consists of a collection of stand up banners showing the history and life of Mother (now St.) Teresa,” said Barb Dowding, the Archdiocese of Vancouver’s vice-chancellor.

“It’s hoped with all the excitement around the canonization of St. Teresa of Kolkata people will be drawn to see the exhibit.”

The Missionaries of Charity working in Vancouver will host the exhibit at St. Jude’s Parish in Vancouver the weekend of Oct. 22-23, and at Immaculate Conception in Delta Oct. 29-30.

“There are about 73 stand-up banners with information and displays about St. Teresa of Kolkata,” Dowding said. “We made contact with the Missionaries of Charity in San Francisco where the display was last held; they are shipping the banners to us. The sisters and volunteers will be there to talk about Mother Teresa!”

An exhibition was intended for the weekend of the Vancouver archdiocese’s celebration Mass of Mother Teresa’s canonization, Oct. 2, but had to be pushed back.

Despite this, the celebration of the saint’s life was well timed with the current Jubilee Year of Mercy, said Dowding. “I think (the exhibit) will attract a lot of people, young and not so young, as she was a saint for everyone, especially during this Year of Mercy.”

Mother Teresa’s life is “what compassion and mercy really look like,” Dowding concluded.
