Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Alain Faubert, CSS, a new auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Montreal.
Born in 1965, Bishop-elect Faubert joined the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata, also called the Stigmatines, and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Montreal in June 1995. At the time of his episcopal appointment he was serving as pastor of Montreal’s Saint-Germain Parish.
In January 2011, the bishop-elect was appointed episcopal vicar of the archdiocese’s eastern region, and in May of that year he was named a monsignor (Chaplain of His Holiness.)
After his ordination and five years as an assistant pastor, Bishop-elect Faubert pursued theology studies at the Institut catholique de Paris and at Laval University in Quebec City.
In 2004 he resumed full-time pastoral work in Outremont, Montreal, while teaching at the Institut de formation theologique de Montreal and serving as assistant director of the Diocesan Office for Faith Education.
The Montreal archdiocese has a population of 1.5 million Catholics, with 394 diocesan priests, 562 religious priests; 78 permanent deacons, 3,000 religious sisters, 230 religious brothers, and 121 lay pastoral workers.
