Retreat aims for mercy

The sun will be shining, birds will be singing, and youth ministries will be providing a camp which gives youth a chance to reinforce their faith while enjoying summer activities.
“Searching in the Spirit provides youth and adults with formation in discipleship, and challenges participants to live out their faith values in everyday, real-life situations,” said Clayton Imoo, director of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
The camp is designed to involve recently confirmed youth in a faith-filled environment where they can revisit the spiritual lessons they have learned.
“Most of all, it inspires the newly confirmed to continue in their faith journey,” Imoo added. Spiritual activities will include prayer, Mass, and testimonies; there will be recreational activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and archery.
Searching in the Spirit is led by a leadership team comprised of 14 teens and young adults who plan and train for five months.
“We’ve been meeting together and preparing since February,” said Erwin Fung, a consultant for youth ministry and the ruler of the camp. “Since it’s the Year of Mercy, we’re trying to incorporate the theme of mercy, though each day will have its own general theme.”
The summer camp will run July 4-8 at Camp Jubilee at the base of Mount Seymour. More information is available at www.rcav.org/youth-training and from the youth ministry office at 604-683-0281.
