Marjorie Owens, long-time secretary/administrative assistant in the Vancouver Regional Tribunal, died Jan. 2, in St. Michael’s Care Centre, Burnaby, at age 98.

Her funeral was Friday, Jan. 11, at St. Matthew’s Church.

Marjorie’s contribution to the Archdiocese of Vancouver was significant. She and her husband, Al, were always active in their parishes, principally in Corpus Christi, and after her retirement, in St. Matthew’s.

She came to work in the Vancouver Regional Tribunal in the mid-1960s, when the Tribunal was struggling, lacking proper organization and staff. When Archbishop Carney revived the organization in 1969, Marjorie was there, a precious collaborator to Fr. John Hanrahan, Fr. Leo Hinz, OSB, and Fr. James Lynch.

After the death of Fr. Hanrahan, she continued her cooperation with Msgr. Angelo Sacchi, then with Fr. Pedro Lopez-Gallo and Fr. Bernard Rossi until her retirement in 1985.

Her service was outstanding in the support she gave to the priests, and in the competent and compassionate assistance she gave to the hundreds of individuals and couples who approached the tribunal for help.

May God give her the reward of her labours.
