The Lower Mainland’s newest pro-life group wants to spread the message that respect for life is a civil rights issue, not a religious one.
The Life Compass Society, previously known as the Meadow Ridge Life Society, is preparing its launch event to educate, celebrate, and socialize interested individuals on pro-life issues.
“I think a lot of people in the Catholic community are very concerned but don’t feel like they have the power to do anything,” said Richard Whalen, the president of the society, whose goal is to “celebrate and protect the dignity of each human life from conception to natural death.”
The launch event will help attendees become more informed, celebrate life and positive developments taking place, and learn what steps pro-life individuals can take despite resistance from a secular society.
The newly minted group hopes its launch event will “show people we care about life despite the abysmal situation in Canada with the recent euthanasia legalization,” Whalen said.
Although modern media have branded respect for life as a Christian issue, members of the group from all religious backgrounds. “It’s not a Catholic issue, it’s a civil rights issue,” said Whalen.
“We believe the renewal of a culture of life is fundamentally a civil rights responsibility our political establishment has so far failed to embrace.”
The launch event will be held at Coquitlam Alliance Church, Monday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. The event’s master of ceremonies will be John Hof, president of United for Life BC. Special guests include B.C. Catholic life and family columnist Colleen Roy and Natalie Sonnen, executive director of Life Canada.
Free babysitting and light refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact Whalen at 604-465-7376 or visit rcav.org.
